The
EMCOM System watches the network while the Network Operations staff
attends to their other duties. The system monitors the WAN all the time,
collecting availability and performance data on every circuit and Frame
Relay PVC on the network, without needing to install a probe at the
remote site for every PVC. The System provides a true real-time display
of the health of the entire WAN on a single screen, including a summary
analysis of recent performance in non technical language.
The EMCOM System automatically alerts Network Operations to congestion and fault conditions and provides the following real-time displays so the entire network is visible while a specific line or PVC problem is being analyzed:
• WAN Circuit Activity & Status
• Frame Relay PVC Activity & Status
• 'Line Hog' Utilization
• High Usage Hosts
• WAN Frame Trace
• WAN Error and Status Detail
A comprehensive suite of reports provides data collected at variable intervals to further analyze problems. Some of the most-used of these detail reports are:

• 'Line Hog' Excessive Use Detail
• Protocol Distribution Percentage - Interval Detail
Within
minutes of seeing an alert condition on the EMCOM System a network administrator
can pinpoint the cause of the problem and know with absolute confidence
whether it is caused by a user, network equipment or the carrier. In
most cases the problem can be resolved or a workaround put in place
before users experience degradation of network performance.
